Analyst at the Swedish Schools Inspectorate

Aug 15, Stockholm Employed as an Analyst at the Swedish Schools Inspectorate.

The Swedish Schools Inspectorate is an Agency under the Swedish government.

The agency is responsible for supervision and quality assurance in regard to preschools (primarily the municipal preschools), compulsory schools, upper secondary schools and the various forms of adult education. University colleges and universities, however, have a different supervisory authority.

The primary aim of the Swedish Schools Inspectorate is to contribute to school improvement and development. The overall goal is a school system where all children have equal rights to a good education and knowledge in a secure environment.

(From the Agency’s information)

Coat of Arms for the Croatian Priest in London

Mar 3, Eskilstuna On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Fr. Ljubomir Šimunović’s Priesthood, I composed a Coat of Arms for him. Fr. Ljubomir is the Head of the Croatian Catholic Mission in London. The motto of Fr. Ljubomir’s Priesthood comes from Psalm 116, 12-13: ”What should I repay to the Lord for all that He has done to me? I will take the Cup of Salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.” Therefore is the Chalice the motif that dominates in the Arms. The Chalice is decorated with the eight-pointed Star that symbolizes Stella Maris (Our Lady) and the Star of Bethlehem (Holy Land). The Star also symbolizes the Franciscan devotion and presence in the Holy Land. The waves symbolize the waves of all important waters: from the Water of the Baptismal Font, over the water from the Adriatic sea, to the water of Lake of Gennesaret. The upper colors symbolize Croatia, the lower colors symbolize Ireland (in which Fr. Ljubomir started the pastoral care for Croatians). All four colors can be found in the Coat of Arms of Croatia as well as in the Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom (in which Fr. Ljubomir currently serves). In heraldry, silver (Argent) symbolizes purity and joy. The colour red (Gules) symbolizes love and patriotism, blue (Azure) symbolizes fidelity, and gold (Or), also painted as yellow, symbolizes supremacy. ”Ljubav i mir” (Love and Peace) is a motto derivated from the name Ljubomir, also a motto well suited to a Franciscan.

According to Archbishop Bruno Bernard Heim, one of the greatist heraldists ever, everyone should have a Coat of Arms. A Coat of Arms reminds us about the principles that are important to us and it helps us to both remember and follow them!

New Coat of Arms composed

Feb 24, Eskilstuna Composed and painted Coat of Arms for an American Family of Swedish origin.

My new article is now published

Dec 29, Karlstad My article about Swedish Public Employment Service’s evaluation production year 2010 and year 2015, which I wrote together with late Senior Professor Elinor Brunnberg PhD (1948-2017) and Senior Lecturer Mats Ekermo PhD, is now published as the first article in Number 23-4/2017 of the Scientific Journal ”Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv”, issued by University of Karlstad in collaboration with University of Gothenburg.

New Book Presentation

Nov 25, Eskilstuna Croatian Cultural Club in Eskilstuna organized a new presentation of my book Chivalry Today. The visitors came from Eskilstuna, Västerås, Södertälje and Stockholm. It was good to hear that they were very pleased with the lecture. I signed also a few books.

New Master Class in Heraldry

Nov 18, Solna Swedish Heraldic Society organised a seminar for professional heraldists. The seminar begun with my lecture about details that a professional heraldist must solve when he/she designs or compose a coat of arms. One of the listeners of the lecure was the State Herald of Sweden.

After a luncheon we continued with a very interesting discussion about some new trends in heraldry. New trends in heraldry can sometimes open new views and bring further development in heraldic artistic expression. However, new trends can also step a little bit outside of the traditional heraldic way of thinking. Several listeners experienced some of the new trends as ”decadence”.

Coat of Arms of Cardinal Arborelius now in the Cathedral

Aug 15 (Assumption of Mary), Stockholm The first Swedish Cardinal ever, H. Em. Anders Cardinal Arborelius, celebrated today the Holy Mass in his own Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Eric in Stockholm. I was proud to see the woodcut of the Cardinal’s coat of Arms in the Cathedral, hanging above the Cathedra.

Woodcut of Thorleif Aiff, made after my drawing. The woodcut with the colours is now hanging above the Cathedra of the Cathedral of St. Eric in Stockholm. Photos by courtesy of Thorleif Aiff and Catholic diocese of Stockholm

The woodcut was made by the Swedish heraldic sculptor Thorleif Aiff. Thorleif Aiff made the woodcut after my drawing as model.

It is interesting for me that both the Invitation to the Inauguration Mass and the envelope in which the Invitation was sent, were decorated with my paintings of H. Em. the Cardinal’s Coat of Arms. The painting on the envelope shows the old Arms, with attributs of a Bishop (green hat with twelve tassels).

Elinor Brunnberg (1948-2017)

Jun 30, Katrineholm Professor Emerita Elinor Brunnberg PhD, my mentor and the co-author of my first scientific articles, died after a short illness.

Professor Brunnberg was a well-renowned scientist in Social Work. In her research she focused on a broad scale of themes and social problems. It is difficult to find a field that she was not interested in. Elinor’s bibliography is really impressive!

I am proud to have had Elinor as my mentor at the post graduate studies.

Grand Cross of the Holy Sepulchre!

Feb 10 (Feast of Blessed Aloysius Stepinac), Stockholm The Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, His Eminence Edwin Frederick Cardinal O’Brien, was received today by the Chancellor of the Swedish Royal Order of Knighthood, at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. At this historic, first official visit, His Eminence was accompanied by three members of the Order: His Excellency Bo Theutenberg KGCHS, Order’s Regent Ad Interim in Sweden; His Excellency Bishop Anders Arborelius of Stockholm, Order’s Grand Prior in Sweden; and I. The Chancellor of the Royal Order was accompanied by the Officers of the Royal Order’s Chancery. After the luncheon, H. Em. the Grand Master bestowed a few Orders of Merit upon meritorious individuals. At the end of the ceremony H. Em. the Grand Master bestowed Motu Proprio Rank of Knight Grand Cross of the Holy Sepulchre upon me!

In my acceptance speech I mentioned that the Church celebrates today the Feast of Blessed Aloysius Stepinac, who also was Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. Stepinac spoke about the equality in the time when speaking about the equality was not any kind of ”mainstream” but rather very dangerous and risky venture. Despite all risks, he didn’t hesitate to advocate the equality in the many sermons that he delivered in the Cathedral of Zagreb, from 1941 to the end of the war. In 1953, when he was appointed a Cardinal (which also implicated a Grand Cross of the Holy Sepulchre) he chose to not to travel to Rome and receive the Cardinal’s insignia. Although the communist regime (which kept him imprisoned on the basis of false accusations) allowed him to travel to Rome, he chose imprisonment before glory because he wanted to stay with his people and strenghten them in the difficult times, like a lighthouse in darkness.

Happy, grateful and humble!

My new book published!

June 3, Zagreb My new book ”Chivalry Today” has been published in Croatian, by Naklada Sv. Antuna.

20160603_160849

Chivalry is one of the most important institutions in the history of mankind. Today, Chivalric Orders are governmental institutions used by the sovereign states for the purpose of rewarding meritorious individuals.

The Foreword is written by Msgr. Stjepan Biletić KCHS.

The book contents 232 pages, hard cover 21cm, several illustrations. Price 145 HRK. The book can be ordered from the Publisher:

e-post-naklada

From the Content:

– Roots and beginning of Chivalry, development during and after Middle Ages, Chivalry and Nobility, Chivalry today.

– Why are Titles and Orders more necessary and more important than ever? Titles have two important functions in the modern society…

– Religious Military Orders of Knighthood – hands of the Social Work of the Church.

– Difference between real Orders, bestowed by recognized sovereign states and different private associations who on their own initiative call themselves “Chivalric Orders”.

– Although the Self-Styled “Orders of Chivalry” are not bad or negative in any way, it is important to emphasize that the “titles” used within such bodies, are not real chivalric titles.

– Real Chivalric Orders are governmental institutions regulated in the domain of Public Law while all private associations are regulated in the domain of Private Law, like, for example, clubs of lovers of music and similar…

– In many countries, it is forbidden by Law to publicly wear “Orders” or “Titles” that are not bestowed by the State or by another sovereign state.

– The Holy See repeatedly states in its official media, that none of the private chivalric associations is recognized by the Holy See as an Order of Chivalry.

– The Holy See “considers inappropriate the use of churches or chapels for their so-called ‘ceremonies of investiture’ ”.

– The most known private Self-Styled “Orders”.

– Notes, indexes, etc…

An ”Orgy” of Beautiful Heraldry

Jan 4, Borås, Eskilstuna Today I visited (again) the Swedish Heraldist Jesper Wasling’s Heraldic Blog. I found an article from 2015 that I missed earlier.

In the named Article Jesper states that ”Davor Zovko is the best Heraldic painter in Sweden”. He calls my homepage for ”an orgy of beautiful heraldry”.

Well, I hope it is understandable why I share this article (despite somewhat strong metaphor of ”orgy”).
